Why start here

Every safari starts at your Moshi hotel

Most travellers reach Moshi after landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), 45 minutes away, or after a Kilimanjaro climb. You don’t need to relocate to Arusha to start a safari — we collect you in Moshi and handle everything from there: a 4×4 with a pop-up roof, your guide, park fees, meals and accommodation.

From our operations desk: “In eight years booking these trips, the mistake I see most is travellers paying for a hotel transfer to Arusha they never needed. Good to know

Safari from Moshi — your questions answered

Is Moshi a good base for a Tanzania safari?
Yes. Moshi is one of the two main gateways to the northern safari circuit, alongside Arusha. From Moshi you can reach Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, and it’s the natural base if you’ve just climbed Kilimanjaro or landed at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). As a Moshi-based operator, we pick you up here and start the safari without charging you for an extra transfer to Arusha.
What is the cheapest safari from Moshi?
A Chemka Hot Spring day trip is our lowest-cost outing at $50 per person. For a true wildlife safari, our 2-day Big Five trips — for example Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater — start at $700 per person. The biggest factor in the final price is your group size: the cost per person drops as the vehicle fills, so a couple or a group of four will each pay less than a solo traveller. Message us with your dates and group size for an exact figure.
How far is Moshi from the safari parks?
By road from Moshi it’s roughly 1.5 hours to Arusha National Park, about 3 hours to Tarangire, 3.5 hours to Lake Manyara, 4 hours to the Ngorongoro Crater and around 6 hours to the central Serengeti. For the Serengeti, many travellers prefer to fly from Kilimanjaro or Arusha to save a long drive — we can arrange a fly-in option, such as our 3-day Serengeti Migration safari.
How many days do I need for a safari from Moshi?
Two days is enough for a focused Big Five trip to the Ngorongoro Crater plus one other park. Three to four days lets you add the Serengeti. Five to six days gives you the unhurried full circuit — Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti — with more time for the Great Migration. If you only have a single day, a Chemka Hot Spring or Serval Wildlife day trip works well.
Do you pick up from my Moshi hotel?
Yes. Pickup from your Moshi hotel or guesthouse is included in every safari and day trip on this page. If you’re flying into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), we can also collect you there. Just tell us where you’re staying when you book and we’ll confirm a pickup time.
When is the best time for a safari from Moshi?
The dry season, roughly June to October, is the most reliable time for game viewing — animals gather at water sources and the roads are easy. January and February are excellent for the Serengeti calving season. The long rains around April and May are the quietest and cheapest months; wildlife is still there, just spread out. Tell us your travel window and we’ll suggest the parks that perform best then.
Is it cheaper to start a safari from Moshi or Arusha?
If you’re already staying in Moshi, starting from Moshi is cheaper — you avoid paying for a transfer to Arusha that you don’t need. The safari itself costs the same regardless of which town you depart from, because the parks and park fees are identical. We’re based in Moshi, so a Moshi departure is our default and adds nothing to your price.
