Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Today marks your arrival in Tanzania. Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by one of our representatives holding a sign bearing the name of our agency, Affordable International Travel. They will be there to assist you through the arrival process and ensure a smooth transition to your accommodations.

Once you've completed the necessary formalities at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel where you will check in and have the opportunity to rest after your journey. Take this time to unwind and prepare for the exciting adventures that await you in Tanzania.

Tomorrow, your exploration of this beautiful country will begin in earnest. Get ready for an unforgettable experience filled with breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures, and memorable encounters. Welcome to Tanzania!

Day 2: Machame Gate (1490m) – Machame Camp (2980m)

After breakfast, depart from Arusha to Machame Village. Depending on road conditions, continue by vehicle or embark on a 1-hour walk to Machame Gate. Register at the gate and begin your ascent through the rainforest to Machame Camp. Overnight at Machame Camp.

Hiking time: 7 hours Distance: Approx. 18 kilometers Habitat: Montane forest

Day 3: Machame Camp (2980m) – Shira Camp (3840m)

Ascend through heathland and moorland vegetation to Shira Camp. Enjoy views of the Western Breach and glaciers. Overnight at Shira Camp.

Hiking time: 6 hours Distance: Approx. 9 kilometers Habitat: Moorland

Day 4: Shira Camp (3840m) – Lava Tower (4630m)

Barranco Camp (3950m) Hike to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. Conquer the Great Barranco Wall en route. Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Hiking time: 7 hours Distance: Approx. 15 kilometers Habitat: Semi-desert

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3950m) – Karanga Camp (3950m)

Navigate the Great Barranco Wall and trek to Karanga Camp for acclimatization. Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Hiking time: 4-5 hours Distance: Approx. 5 kilometers Habitat: Alpine desert

Day 6: Karanga Camp (3959m) – Barafu Hut (4600m)

Ascend to Barafu Hut, the final camp before the summit attempt. Prepare for the summit night. Overnight at Barafu Hut.

Hiking time: 2-3 hours Distance: Approx. 4 kilometers Habitat: Alpine desert

Day 7: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka Camp (3100m)

Begin the summit attempt around midnight. Reach Stella Point at sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Descend to Barafu Hut for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for the night.

Hiking time: 8 hours to Uhuru Peak, 7-8 hours descent to Mweka Camp Distance: Approx. 7 kilometers ascent, 23 kilometers descent Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3100m) – Mweka Gate (1980m)

Descend to Mweka Gate where you'll receive certificates of completion. Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for celebration and relaxation.

Day 9: Depart Tanzania

Depart Tanzania or continue your dream with amazing safari extensions.
For trekkers not continuing with a safari, we provide transfers to Kilimanjaro International Airport or bus station for your onward journey.
